Starting 2024 off in a truly creative style, here is Natasha’s tutorial for how to make banana extract at home:
What You’ll Need
The “ingredients” for making banana extract are as follows:
- Blunt paring knife
- Plastic bag or cling wrap
- Mallet or heavy object
- 2 glass jars
- Cheesecloth
- Banana peels
- Almond oil
Instructions
Step 1: Chop banana peels into small pieces. Then place the pieces of banana peels in a plastic bag or cover completely with plastic wrap. Using your mallet to crush the banana peels until effectively bruised all throughout.
Step 2: Transfer bruised banana peels to a glass jar. Natasha recommends using almond oil for this step, but you are welcome to use another oil of your choice. Completely cover the banana peel with sweet almond oil, ensuring a generous coating.
Step 3: Tightly seal the glass jar and leave to sit on a window sill for at least two days. Whenever you walk by or happen to notice the glass jar, Natasha recommends giving the jar a nice shake.
Step 4: Repeat Steps 1-3, adding the new batch of bruised banana pieces to the original glass jar. Continue to repeat this process until a desired strength is achieved. With how much Natasha Lycia Ora Bannan loves her banana scents and flavoring, she repeats this process at least 6 times. But you are welcome to experiment on your own!
